Is CABG Advisable For A Person With Blockages?

My Mother had a cardiac cath at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady NY by a Dr. Parks. He found 3 blockages and suggested CABS. What my sister and I want to know is can we get a second opinion to see if there are any other options? and if we can how would we go about getting one?

Hi,

I would suggest finding the location of the nearest city to you that has a University Hospital Center with a medical school. Contact the Division of Cardiology (part of the Department of Medicine) and request to speak to an interventional cardiologist (one qualified to do cardiac catheterizations and insert stents) or make an appointment to go talk with him/her for a second opinion. Should you go for an informational appointment, please ask whether you should bring with you any of your mother's medical records, test results, or a copy of your mother's catheterization.

Make sure that both you and sister are able to speak to the doctor by phone or attend the appointment in office.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Arnold Zedd,
Pediatrician
