I'm 29 now. When I was 17, I had a spinal fusion (Harrington rods) done to correct idiopathic scoliosis (curves = 55-65 degrees in upper, middle, and lower back). I had another surgery a year and a half later at age 19 to remove some hardware (wires, hooks and screw, small amount, rods still in). After first surgery, curves were 6-11 degrees. 1 month after first surgery, my degrees increased by about 8-11 degrees in each of the three areas. About 4 years after initial surgery, my curves were back up into the upper 30's-lower 40's. Doctors said I should be ok but I could remove all hardware if I wanted to. Opted out of last surgery. Comsistant back pain after 1st surgery and more back pain after 2nd. Is this a common issue with spinal fusion due to scoliosis? Also, I now have major pain from upper neck down to hips and legs. Legs and feet go numb quicker than normal as well as my arms will go numb in certain positions. Is there a reason as to why I would curve back to the point when scoliosis surgery is brought up to begin with?
