Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was in a motorcycle accident 2 1/2 years ago. I suffered a broke scapula and 5 broken ribs (3-7) on the right side. According to witnesses I flew through the air a distance and landed on the right side of my head and shoulder area. I remained conscious but had only peripheral vision. I had a pneumo thorax. I complained the entire time of a hot stabbing pain in my triceps area. I never regained rom in my shoulder after 1 round of PT. The Dr. claimed it was from arthritis and recommended a replacement. After the replacement and another round of PT I still did not gain rom. With my thumb pointed up I can not lift my arm above my shoulder to the side. It has been that way since the accident. The trauma Dr. that treated my ribs commented that "I ruined my ribs," and his first question to me was "Can you lift your arm above your shoulder?" OK thanks for hanging in so far. I have good strength in my shoulder , but when I try to lift it to the side it just stops. No pain just no movement. I can move it passively. If i move my elbow towards my ear the shoulder rotates into the forward plane. Who is next? Ortho neuro or who? Any idea what I am looking at. Once again trauma doc that treated my ribs said I was starting over at ground zero. Does that mean it is rib or shoulder causing the loss of rom. I am an electrician by trade and this interferes with work. Also the ortho rated my shoulder at "about 50% impairment." What do I do?
