Does A Urine Analysis Report Showing Positive Results For Proteins And Nitrites Require Immediate Medical Attention?

I think I may have a UTI. Urinalysis results- positive proteins, nitrites, pH 6, specific gravity 1.005, leukocytes +++500. Flank pain currently managed by ibuprofen. Is it safe to wait for my doctors appointment tomorrow or should I go to emergency tonight?

Hello,

Since you already have your the report of your Urinalysis, you should report to your treating doctor.

You need a course of antibiotics, simply taking pain relieving medicines will give you relieve temporarily.

Get C/S, Urine done to be able to take specific medicines. In the meantime, take care of your hygiene, do not use public washrooms or toilets.

Avoid sex for a couple of days while you are being treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
