Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently was in the ER. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetics. My blood work showed a high anion gap, low levels of calcium and magnesiium, mild ketones, elevated liver enzymes. I was treated in the hospital over 48 hours until they were happy with the blood results. They prescribed my on discharge with Metaformin 1000 mg a day. And lisinopril 5 mg a day for chronic high blood pressure. My question is are they safe for me to take. My liver enzymes were elevated and I am a long time drinker. Would the blood work have properly vetted whether there is a presence of liver disease? Metaformin says not to give to liver patients. Lisinopril says use with caution.
