What Is The Treatment Given For Impingement And Rotator Cuff Tear?

I injured my shoulder. I have tested positive for impingement. I have also had some tests for rotator cuff tear which were positive and others which were negative. My orthopedic specialist thinks it is only impingement because I am 27 and wants to wait until I ve had 6 weeks of physical therapy to do an MRI. I am concerned about the possible tear. What does it mean to have tests be positive and others be negative?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Impingement can cause some tests of a tear to be positive. Only an MRI scan can detect if there is a tear or not. Minor and partial thickness tears can be treated with rest and physical therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Praveen Tayal, Orthopaedic Surgeon
