I Have Type 2 Diabetes. Three Weeks Ago I Stumbled

I have type 2 diabetes. Three weeks ago I stumbled and fell stumping my big toe and skinning both knees. It appears that my knees are healing, as they both have scabbed and does not appear infected. However, The joint of my big toe is still sore mainly when I have to step up or down on street curves. I'm just now noticing that the bunion on that foot is a little swollen. Could this possibly lead to amputation? Please help ease my mind one way or another. At this point, not knowing is worse than knowing.
