I have stopped using Clonidine a couple of days ago. I used the .1 MG dose, 1-3 times daily as needed, as a quick fix when my BP spiked over 160 systolic and/or 110 diastolic. I didn't need to use it from June until just recently, when my BP starting getting very high after Cervical Spine surgery 10 days ago (11/2). I took the medication 15 times in total over 11 days. On Friday (11/11), when I needed to take it, my BP started going down, but then reversed and went up over 180. I then took a 2nd pill, and that did the trick. I called my cardiologist, who said to stop taking the Clonidine and prescribed Hydralazine (25 MG, 4x daily).
Am I a victim of "Clonidine rebound"? How long before the Hydralazine "kicks in" (I've taken it 8 times so far)? If it is a Clonidine rebound", how long does it take to run its course? My BP has been running around 155/90 since my surgery.
