I have had a worsening hacking cough for four years now, and I am worn out. I work in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a correctional officer (fancy word for "guard.") I have recently transferred to Choice Moore, a minimum security facility, but for over three-and-a-half years I worked at Coffield Unit, opened in 1971. I am concerned about the diseases to which I've been exposed as well as concerns for the possibility of asbestos and lead paint, as TDCJ prefers to just "cover" a multitude of "sins," rather than permenantly fixing them. My doctor has run chest xrays and an MRI, but neither show any problems. This cough is so severe, sometimes I black out and have seizure-like episodes.
