I have chronic muscle cramps in calf, foot, and hand that is prevented by taking 6000 IU Vitamin D and about 1.6g Ca Citrate. I was taking 8000 IU vitamin D that caused fatty liver, diagnosed by a hematologist after an MRI. Platelets recently declined to 115, WBC and RBC are slightly below the low end of the normal range. I am seen by an endocrinologist and urologist yearly for this condition and the passing of a kidney stone at two year intervals. Decrease in Vitamin D or Ca causes cramps to resume. Constipation caused by the Ca intake is offset by several measures including Mg Citrate supplement. The hematologist is next having a test for clotting factors due to a tendency to bleed that he thinks is not related to low platelets. What I'd like to know is the cause, especially the need for high levels of Ca intake for normal blood levels to prevent cramping. Any thoughts?
