I have bad hearing and wear hearing aids -- age

I have bad hearing and wear hearing aids -- age 74. I also have had problem with dry/itchy ears. Besides hurting, they swell up and narrow the ear canal. If this happens then the hearing aids do not help much. When I was younger I could control the dry/itchy ears with swim ear or half vinegar and alcohol. However, now having more trouble -- ENT has given me steroid drops -- 2 or 3 different kinds, even ones with an acid in them. They open the canal, but leave a residue on my ear drum that makes hearing difficult.
Do you have any suggestions?

I’m 23 yr old male. I ve been suffering hearing disability (approx. 48 %) due to a fever, when I was 6 or 7 yrs old. Doctor said that weak cochlea is the reason for the hearing disability and it is not cured by any treatment, but a chance for improvement in hearing ability as I growing. Not only that I’ve been suffering Sinusitis for the past 8 yrs. So the block of Eustachian tube also affects hearing. I had used some medicine, but no result. Once I’ve used hearing aid but it made pain to the ear. Will hearing aid damage to the ear? Is programmed hearing aid Favourable to my condition? Is there any treatment for solve this problem? Which is the best choice to me? I have no problem with normal communication with normal sound.

This suggests a severs hearing loss on the right. left ear - hearing threshold level about 50-55 dB. some doctors told me to take hearing aid, but i think hearing aid is the last stage. in this circumstance i eagerly want your suggestion if there is other solution except taking hearing aid.
