I had titanium rods put in both femurs back in 1998. 3 years ago my ortho doctor tryed to remove the because I need a total knee replacement. But he broke the top anchor screws and the surgery center did not have the correct tools to finish the job. So it had to be done at the hospital. I finally get around to getting the surgery done agian at the hospital. The rod is still in me. My surgeon said, he and two other guys useing three different size hammers could not get it to break free from my bone. They even tryed useing a tool used for hip implants. But the rod started to twist. So that was a no go. Time ran out and now the surgerons next idea to remove it, I Do Not want to do! His idea is cut the lenght of my femur crack it open enough to remove the rod. Then plate and bands around femur. No thanks! First I'm supose to go see a trama ortho doc and see if he has a better way to remove the rod. They say my bones are dense and thats a good thing except removeing this rod. Plus back in 1998 way the rod was put in the doctor told me some of them were like brushed and that give the texture the bone needs to adhere to the rod. So thats the story now my question is, how can they remove it without any bone breaking? Also since the surgery, which was done on the 27th of last month, my knee gives out backwards. I have a lot of pain from the bottom of my knee cap down my tibia about 4 or 5 inches. In 2001 I had a tuck done to my ACL or the PCL. Cant remember. But I've never had it give out this bad backward. Mostly it gave out forwards and/or out and nothing like it gives out backwards since this surgery. Worried about the pain because it don't feel right. I understand they beat the crap out of my leg but why so much instability? Frustrated!
