Is It Advisable To Take Medication For ADHD Which May Elevate One S BP?

I am currently on 10mg Lisinopril. My high blood pressure is now under control and I have started going to a psychiatrist and therapist. I have also be diagnosed with adhd. I’m wondering the likelihood of my dr. prescribing me a stimulant since they have a chance to increase blood pressure. I’m thinking about saying I would like to try it while closely monitoring my blood pressure but I don’t want to overset the knowledge base my Dr. has. Obviously she is the professional.

Hi,

Yes, it is very much advisable to take ADHD medication even though it could result in mildly increased blood pressure. Untreated ADHD can be detrimental to many areas of your life, and can lead to decreased quality of life. In that sense, a little bit increased blood pressure is easily treatable.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Maria Riechel-Sarup, General & Family Physician
