I am a retired 68 yo physician recently dx'd with Gleason 6 [3+3] prostate Ca localized on bx and parametric MRI to the rt side. Looking at the studies, I am considering HIFU localized tx with a lower level of incontinence and impotency. Since it is FDA approved, I was astounded that Medicare and Humana will pay for only a small portion of the cost, leaving a bill greater than $8,000. I understand that this is not a billing website and I can afford the cost. But many men cannot, forcing them to use more aggressive txs with more side-effects. If this was a breast cancer discussion, there would not be a question. Your thoughts?
