How To Withdraw From Methylprednisolone?

I am on meds for high blood pressure. Yesterday I started methylprednisolone tablets, 4mg, for inflamed gum area following a root canal. I have taken the full dose for the first day and my blood pressure has risen to 170/87 this morning at 3am. How can I safely get off this medication?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since, you only took one dose, it can simply be stopped, and it does not need to be tapered. Tapering is for a long course of steroids.

You would need to speak to your doctor about the blood pressure, if it remains high and would also need to let your dentist know about the issue.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
