How To Withdraw From Lopressor?

I would like to see my88 year old mother get off of Lopressor. I understand that this medication needs to be quit gradually. I see Cozaar (Losartan) or Tenormin as alternatives. Are these medicines both bata blockers? Do either of them have symptoms of wheezing when taking them. My mother does not have asthma.

Hi,

Lopressor is a beta blocker and you should not stop it suddenly as you said very right.

Tenormin is also a beta blocker and is not much different then Lopressor However, Cozaar ( losartan) is not a beta blocker.

It's is another class of drugs used for hypertension called ARB (Angiotensin receptor blockers). ARB does not cause wheezing.

However, do not change your drug without your doctor advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
