How To Withdraw From Citalopram?

My neurologist prescribed Citalopram for symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. I have been taking this med for 17 years with no apparent side effects.... but I wonder about this long term use. Currently taking 20mg once at bed time. Should I Phase it out and if so in what doseages?
