How To Treat Urethral Calculus During Pregnancy?

Hi Doc,Since my wife is 9 weeks pregnant and she was diagnosed having 17mm calculus in the middle of her right ureter. She once felt intense ureteric colic but now she is OK.Mostly the stone remains asymptomatic. She is having grade 1 hydronephrosis also in right kidney.Left kidney is normal.Since doctors are reluctant to do surgery for her ureteric calculus because of her pregnancy. What is your opinion in this regard?? Thanks Dr Shujat,Dental Surgeon.

Hey.

Welcome to HCM.

In my opinion, as the calculus is 17 mm, you can plan for surgery after 3 months of her delivery.

Till then, you can treat it conservatively, as taking analgesics when ever she has pain.

Ensure to have plenty of water every day.

Hope i have answered your question. If you have any questions, i will be happy to help you.

Take good care.

Warm Regards.
Dr. Surender sharma.
