Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing pain from an infected wisdom tooth. Metrogyl (metronidazole) is a commonly prescribed antibiotic for dental infections and is effective against many types of bacteria that cause dental infections. However, if you have been taking the medication for 36 hours and are not experiencing any improvement in your symptoms, you should contact your dentist or healthcare provider to re-evaluate your condition and adjust your treatment if necessary.

In addition to taking the antibiotic, you can try some home remedies to help alleviate your pain and discomfort:
* Rinse your mouth with warm salt water (1/2 teaspoon of salt dissolved in a glass of warm water) several times a day to help reduce inflammation and fight bacteria.
* Apply a cold compress to your jawline for 15-20 minutes at a time to help reduce swelling and numb the area.
* Avoid chewing on the affected side of your mouth and stick to soft foods that are easy to chew.
* Take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, as directed by your healthcare provider to help relieve pain and reduce fever.
* Make sure to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth regularly to help prevent further infection.

It's important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions and complete the full course of antibiotics, even if your symptoms improve. If your symptoms do not improve or worsen, or if you experience any unusual side effects from the medication, contact your healthcare provider immediately. In some cases, a dental procedure such as a root canal or tooth extraction may be necessary to fully treat the infection.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
