How To Treat Tingling, Numbness And Pain In Thumb?

2 weeks ago tomorrow I injured my thumb. I had been cutting some q tips for a kids arts and crafts project and irritated the nerve. My thumb has been tingling, numb and painful since then. I have iced it and taken some ibuprofen, but have seen no improvement. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is possible for a laceration to the hand to injure a nerve. This type if injury can cause numbness, loss of feeling and tingling due to the swelling around the nerve. But your symptom last more than two weeks so your nerve has likely been cut. In this case you need to see a specialist. He or she will determine if a nerve repair would help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
