How To Treat Persistent Pain In The Back Radiating Towards Left Shoulder?

I have a nagging pain in my back in the area of my left shoulder blade. Sometimes I also have pain in my arm and neck. It feels better in the morning but as the day goes on and I use my arm it gets worse. Since I'm 61, I understand I'm not supposed to take ibuprophin. Is there something else I can take for the pain that is more effective than Tylenol?

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
The pains you describe sound like mechanical pains that are aggravated by activity. This is typical of osteoarthritis.Such pains will respond well on non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen.Being 61 is not a contraindication for ibuprofen. However, gastritis which is common in old people may be aggravated by this drug or any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory.I will suggest you try a COX 2 inhibitor like celecoxib.
Hope this will help
Best regards
