How To Treat Muscle Spasm And Swelling On Thigh After An Injury?

Hi I was just cutting down a tree and a heavy branch came down on my left thigh slightly above the knee, the muscle began to spasm & swell. I can walk ok & the skin is not broken. I currently have it elevated with ice packs, just wondering if this is correct or should I go to the hospital?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You should have it checked in a hospital. If they don’t find anything concerning there you can treat the swelling with Bromelain 100mg for 3 weeks. Against the pain Naproxen 250mg for a maximum of 2 weeks together with Gaviscon liquid.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Alexander Davis, General & Family Physician
