How To Treat Fall Injury Mediated Golf Ball Sized Lump On Back Of Head In A 6 Year Old Child?

I have a child that fell backwards and hit her head on a ceramic floor. she had a golf ball sized lump on the back of her head (I could literally cup it in my hand when I felt it). and 2 weeks later she has the same lump and it doesn't seem to have gone down at all. she is 6 years old. is it ever going to go down? could there be possible brain damage?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

The child has no other complaints apart from swelling. There is unlikely to be any brain damage.
The swelling is haematoma that is collection of blood lying outside the cranial cavity. It will slowly re absorb by liquefaction. Rarely it may undergo infection causing infected haematoma.
Regular follow up with Pediatric Surgeon is recommended for assessment.

Rest be assured there is no cause for concern.

Take care

Best Regards
