How To Treat Discomfort In Left Arm Movement And Bruise After A Injury?

My husband, age 49, tripped over something on the pool deck and fell on his right arm and into the pool yesterday. He is unable to lift his arm past his shoulder, straight out in front of him. I keep telling him to go to ER, but says its only bruised. Any suggestions as to what it could be and treatment .

Hello dear user!
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns!
Thank you for sharing them on healthcaremagic.
Have he any deformation of his arm? Have he any swelling, change of shoulder shape, does it look different from before? These signs might indicate arm or shoulder bones fracture. In such cases a simple x-ray would give you the answer for that, and it would be better to get this examination done.
Anyway if everything looks fine, and he has just pain while moving his arm, it might come for the hit of his arm/shoulder and from the crush syndrome. Bones, muscles, and tendons, need some more time to recover from the crush. So the pain will go gradually and he will be able to move his arm again.
Just use ibuprofen for the pain and swelling. Artrosilene (ketoprofen) cream would be very helpful if you apply it locally to the place of bruising.

P.S: I recommend again a x-ray of his shoulder/arm. Keep an eye on it and go to the hospital if no improvement is done by the days.

I hope this answer was helpful to you!
