How To Treat Choking Sensation In Throat While Eating?
My adult son had a choking episode. He was able to clear his airway and the food went flying across the room. He said he was terrified until he could breathe again. At the moment he is breathing, eating, and drinking normally but says feels like the obstruction is still there. Is this a normal sensation for choking victims.
Since your son is now normally eating & swallowing without pain or trouble, whatever food caused choking has already got dislodged. The sensation of obstruction can be due to hurting the mucosa, it should go away on its own. However, if it was a bone stuck he is suggested to get it examined by an ENT for any swelling, inflammation or small particle left over.
It will be removed and treated accordingly. In the meantime, let him take well cooked rice or oats so that the sensation of obstruction goes away. He can take a little honey twice daily for faster healing. Honey has antibacterial properties and helps healing better. He can take acetaminophen, one SOS for relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
