How To Treat Arm Pain And Redness Around Elbow Post Breast Cancer Surgery?

I had 16 lymph nodes removed due to breast cancer and I have some pain in my arm. It started around my elbow which was red and swollen and I had a fever 100.4 degrees. The fever is gone and the redness has spread up to the bicep area. I have an achiness in my arm.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

According to my knowledge this seems to be case of lymphedema. It can occur after breast cancer surgery and as far as i know its treatment is non medicinal.

I would advise you the following:
1. Physiotherapy
2. Hot or cool Compression of swollen part of your arm
3.regular massage
4. Compression garments
5. Keep the arm elevated when lying or sitting
6. Keep the skin clean and moisturized.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiba Tehrim, General & Family Physician
