How To Treat A Paining Elbow After Being Hit By A Door Frame & Subsequent Red Bump?
My friend hit her elbow on a door frame and a small red bump appeared. She hit it right on the bone and she can't bend her elbow anymore. I tried to touch the bump and she winced in pain. She is worried it may be serious. Treatment options and diagnosis needed!
Most possibly, the red bump is due to the formation of a Hematoma (blood clot). Restriction of mobility in the joint after injury suggests either a fracture or soft tissue injury (tendons/ligaments).An xray of the elbow joint is necessary to rule out any bony injury (fracture). MRI scan of the joint will show up the soft tissue injury status.
Initially, follow the PRICE (protection of the joint, rest, ice packing, compression, elevation) regime to alleviate the symptoms.
I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for a proper diagnosis and further management.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
