How To Treat A Open Wound On Navel Caused After Surgery?

I have an open wound from a previous surgery from breast cancer. My naval was removed. The wound opened in that spot. I ve been cleaning it with saline solution and packing it with gauze but it has an odor. Is it safe to remove the bandage and gauze when I shower?

Hi.

The bandage wound get soaked either way, so in such cases it is best to learn how to change your dressing and how to do it the right way. I recommend a visit to your doctor for that, but you can start by buying sterile gloves, sterile dressing, a solution to clean your wound like betadine iodine solution, a topical antibiotic (e.g. neomycin, metronidazole, etc.), and sterile gauze. You may also require oral antibiotics based on the information provided by you.

Best wishes.
