How To Switch From Keppra To Depakote?

Hello: My daughter is Down Syndrome and had a seizure, Dr, gave her Keppra,, she is hallucinating and irritable. Taking 500 mg twice a day, there is another drug called Dechprote (sp?), Our MD said that was milder,,,,250 grams twice a day. Should we change gradually to this second drug mentioned? My daughter is 51 and very small...weighing only about 110,

Hi,

Yes, you are very right, seizures drug should not be stopped abruptly. If new drugs are started, we advise that the drug is stopped. It should be gradually reduced in the dose for up to few weeks until that is stopped.
