How To Reduce Pain In Nipple?

Have have been to a walk in clinic as my doctor had no appointments available yesterday and she is not in the office till tomorrow. I have excruciating pain in my right nipple. It hurts to have anything touch it, even the slightest breeze causes pain. The clinic doctor prescribed nifedipine ointment, however it is not helping. I am not pregnant, nor am I breast feeding. I have never had pain like this before.

Hi,

Excruciating pain in the nipple can be caused by various reasons, including infections, hormonal changes, injuries, or underlying medical conditions. Here are some steps that may help reduce nipple pain:
* Apply the warm compress: Applying a warm compress can help soothe the nipple and alleviate the pain. You can use a warm towel or soak the nipple in warm water for a few minutes.
* Wear loose clothing: Tight clothing, especially tight bras, can put pressure on the nipple and aggravate the pain. Wearing loose clothing can help alleviate the discomfort.
* Avoid irritants: Avoid using soaps, lotions, or perfumes on the affected nipple as they can cause further irritation and worsen the pain.
* Take pain relievers: Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can help alleviate the pain. However, it's important to consult with a healthcare provider before taking any medications, especially if you have a medical condition or are taking other medications.

Consult with a healthcare provider: If the pain persists or gets worse despite home remedies and medications, it's important to consult with a healthcare provider. They can perform a physical exam, run tests, and determine the underlying cause of the pain. Depending on the cause, they may prescribe antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, or other treatments.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
