Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes, I m 78 years old and on watchful waiting for prostate cancer, I was diagnosed with this condition back in 2006, with psa of 6,5 and in the past 9 years have gone to psa 67- last year it was 27 or so and now it has doubled since last August. Is there any way of lowerig my psa in this situation. I read your articles and books and look to a more natural approach then a more risky medical one.. Thank You
Hello and welcome to HCM, Raised PSA is not a disease but it is an indication of underlying prostatic abnormality. A rising or doubling level of PSA has to be viewed with caution. There is a risk of recurrence or metastasis of prostate cancer in a person who has suffered from prostatic cancer. I suggest you to consult your urologist for clinical assessment and relevant investigations to rule out recurrence or metastasis of prostate cancer. Although metastasis is associated with very high levels of PSA, it has to be ruled out. In addition, other PSA variables like free PSA, PSA density and PSA velocity should be determined for more information regarding recurrence or metastasis.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
