How To Keep Blood Pressure Level Under Control?

I gained weight and stopped exercising regularly like I have most of my 55 years. In January my Doctor read my BP as 150/100, and ordered blood, urine, and stool tests, and after seeing the results, prescribed Perindopril and Rosuvastatin for 90 days. I started exercising again, improved my diet, stopped all alcohol for 41 days, but was stressed by this and later had what I thought was a heart palpitations. (it was a twitching muscle way above the heart) I checked into Emergency, but after an ECG was declared alright, but went back for a Heart Stress Test. My heart is excellent and as good as someone half my age! My Doctor seems to prescribe pills quite easily BTW. I do not want to keep taking the pills forever but am worried that my BP will go up again as soon as I stop. My diet is excellent, no junk food etc, and I now again exercise regularly. I am very young looking and energetic for my age. How should I deal with this?
