How To Diagnose Aphasia In An Alzheimer S Patient?
My husband has alzheimers (mild/moderate) and I didn t know much about aphasia but just read about it and I m thinking he probably does have it. He doesn t follow complex sentences, searches for words and can t find them, never makes complete sentences but never really did very much. He can t listen very long and just starts making noises over my talking when he gets discouraged. Is this aphasia?

Strictly speaking, aphasia is the total inability to speak or understand whereas dysphasia is decreased ability or disordered ability to speak or understand.
Altered ability to understand or speak can occur in persons with Alzheimer's disease so it is possible that he is experiencing this. You may want to discuss his symptoms with his doctors to see if they can help.
