Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How To Deal With An Emotional Abuse After Being Disowned By Family Members?
My daughter, who will be sixty in January, has disowned me saying that I embarrassed her at a family get-together during dinned at her home. Because she had accused me of repeating myself (rather unkindly) and I wanted to tell a story about something that had happened about forty years ago I asked for permission to tell the story. When we were leaving she was not with the group and I found her cleaning up in the kitchen. When she realized I was there to say goodnight she held up her hands and told me that I had embarrassed her in her own home and she wanted nothing more to do with me. How should I handle this? Write to her? Try calling her? Assume that she will get over it? Pretend nothing happened?? I am 89 and in fair shape for my age, I don t want to have something happen when nothing has been resolved. Thank you...sbibeau
Though this requires detailed counselling for proper guidance, I would suggest to have a rest period of 2-3 days at this moment. After the time of the same period, get discussion with your daughter once her acute anger is resolved and she can get details of your explanations.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
