How To Cure Cramps And Pains After Eating Due To A Colostomy?
I had a colostomy 7 weeks ago: done by open incision form belly button down. Stoma seems fine and shrinking but have had severe craping pains for hours after i eat and when I pass the soft stool thru stoma. Last few days, the cramping has been so bad that I have felt it in rectum.(..only part of large intestine removed and stoma level with belly button)and even taking Bentyl 10 mg capsules have not helped. would a different anti-spasmadic med like donnatel be considered? Or could I have picked up a bug from surgical operation that may be neede to treat with xifaxin or flagyl?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history and understood the concerns. The typical history you have provided is suggestive of either intestinal obstruction or IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome as the is there in rectum in spite of colostomy. I would advise you the following: X-ray of the whole abdomen in standing position. CT scan with contrast study. Re- exploration if needed to correct obstruction. Reduce stress and anxiety. Identify and list up foods and beverages that can cause your symptoms and stop them altogether.
