How To Control Eating Habits Of A Diabetic Person?

Hi Dr. Grief;
I need to know the best way to get my hard-headed husband to eat the same as me for we're both diabetic. Mine is unstable with #'s in high 200's to 4oo's while his is in the 100's. I grew up eating pasta, white bread, beans, lots of cookies,cakes etc so, I have a real problem controlling my sweet tooth and he constantly wants candy bars, choc. pie, long johns creamed filled etc. How should I handle this? When in my house all I hear is this monster sticking it's head out saying "EAT ME-EAT ME---------------------------------------------EAT ME. HELP!!!!!!!

Hi,

The very best thing to do is to prepare a common menu for both of you, in which you should include

- toasted whole grain bread, 1 cup of low fat milk, unsalty cheese for breakfast
- have a snack around 10-11 a.m. (fruits-raw, dried, or nuts)
- around 1 pm. should have lunch: can prepare whole grain pasta with veggies and olive oil, or can have baked vegetable dishes.
- around 3-4 pm. can have fruits, yoghurt or nuts for snack time
- around 6 pm should have dinner (soup, or fruit-yogurt salad)

Do not forget to drink plenty of water all day long! Please find more menu ideas at:

All the best!
