How Much Liquid Can Be Consumed While Suffering From Achalasia?

I was diagnosed with achalasia 2.5 years ago. I had the surgery to open the muscle to my stomach. Because my esophagus muscles no longer work-and my esophagus is like a funnel. I m wondering how much liquid does a normal esophagus hold? I try to drink and eat small amounts. The drink is to wash down my food. But sometimes I feel like my liquid is not flowing into my stomach fast enough. It is like pouring fluids into a bottle thru a small hole and it sometimes will bubble back. Am I right? And should I limit my fluids to a certain amount (that is what I am trying to determine) at one setting.

Hello,

Lower oesophagal sphincter not getting relaxed means it may store in oesophagus lead to Achalasia. Usually, it won't store any food but in the case of Achalasia, it may store.

So once again consult your Gastroenterologist he will examine for oesophagal sphincter then treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
