Hi,

Thanks for writing to us,

Depressive disorder is treated with antidepressants which have to be taken for a long duration of time. The exact duration of taking medications would depend on many factors like how long you have been symptomatic, how severe your illness is, if there were any past episodes etc. It varies in different patients but it cannot be stopped so early after two months, it carries a risk of recurrence. Do not stop the medications without consulting your psychiatrist.

Hope this helps,
Dr A Rao
