How Long Post Antibiotics Intake Will Root Canal Swelling Reduce?
I had a root canal done on Wednesday, and started getting swelling in my face the next day. Dentist gave me amoxicillin 500mg on Friday after work. It s now Saturday after noon, and the swelling is just getting worse. How long should I wait for the antibiotics to reduce the swelling before going to urgent care?
So sorry to hear about your problem and I will try my level best to resolve it..
Swelling on cheek after root canal treatment i pointing that Root Canal treated tooth is still infected leading to flare up of swelling..
If there is pus formation below the root tips of the tooth and is not completely drained off before the tooth is packed with filling then there can be repeated swelling and also pain..
I would suggest you to consult an Endodontist and get evaluated and an x-ray should be done..
The Endodontist can repeat the root canal procedure and clean the canals again followed by filling the canals with Calcium hydroxide that will help in disinfecting the canals along with antibiotics and painkillers will help. Once the swelling and infection will completely subside then only root canal filling can be done..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
