Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had antirabies shots last May 2016 (4 doses) for a cat bite. I was again bitten by a cat just yesterday. I was told by the doctor who administered the shots that the shots should be effective for one year. So, I just want to validate if I still need to get shots for this new bite. I'm 43 y/o, female, 5'4 & 55 kgs. Thanks.

How Long Is Anti-rabies Shot Effective?
Hello, For about two years. Once you have received a full course of vaccine (4 doses), the protective antibody level lasts for at least 2 years. However, you just need 2 booster doses in subsequent exposures to not to leave any chance, just in case, your immune levels have gone down. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
