How Long Is An Anti Rabies Vaccine Effective?

Hello, I just want to ask if how long or how many years is the effectivity of anti rabies vaccine? I have been vaccinated before way back 2003 for 3 doses. I am exposed to my puppy that I think has a rabies because he has scabies and didn t have anti rabies vaccine yet. When playing around he licked my foot that has a small wound and I think saliva may transmit. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A booster dose as often as every 6 months to 2 years may be required for a person after exposure to the rabies virus.

So, I suggest you repeat the rabies vaccine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
