How Long Does The Pain Last After Molar Tooth Extraction?

HOw long should I be in pain when I had a molar tooth extracted yesterday morning? also when I look in my mouth I see a white looking patch over extracted site. Is this normal or a dry socket? Sorry have not had a tooth pulled in like three years and that was my wisdom teeth!! I hate mouth pain!

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it is not uncommon to have pain a day after the tooth extraction is done and you need not to worry about it as gradually when the healing will progress the pain will subside and as far as Dry socket is concerned it occurs mostly after 5 to 6 days of the extraction and not on the second day of extraction and as you have white patch over the extraction site it seems to be Scar tissue or the healing tissue that is responsible for filling up the extraction socket for proceeding the healing...
You need not to worry about it as it is not due to dry socket else it is due to inflammation that is common after any minor or major surgical procedure that causes tissue injury..

You must be advised by your treating dentist to take antibiotics and painkillers and you should continue to take it but in case if it is not relieving you can take Ultram [Tramadol] 50 mg three to four times a day or Ketorol DT one tablet dissolved in one forth glass of water every 4 hours..
Do warm saline gargles and maintain a good oral hygeine..

In case if the pain does not subside even after a week also you should consult your dentist and get evaluated for infections or dry socket..

Hope this information helps..
