Hi,thanks for query.Kidneys are the key organ for maintaining electrolyte balance in our body.In case of kidney disease this ability is lost so that more of electrolytes like potassium are not conserved and excreted in urine which leads to deficiency.please talk help of a kidney specialist.Who can definitely help.bye.

Hello and Gud morning Doc ...... I am having this problem where my right side lower abdomen and lower back is hurting from past 4 days and also there is bleeding once i complete my urine (not during the urine pass). I have gone to general physician and they have given me paracetamol (Buscapan)as pain killers, PAN-D and Orni-O. Also have done urine test, blood test and ultra sound scan (all were showing positive results). The pain has come down but if i dont take the medicine the pains back and the blood passing has not reduced. My last MC was on the 15th of April and i never had any issues with them. Please advice on the same.

I have been suffering for the last 2 weeks with pain in my back. Thought first that I pulled a muscle, but 9 days ago ended up in hospital with excruciating pain. I was put on a drip, given a blood test, a urine test, ct scan and later i was told that I probably passed a kidney stone . had a bit of blood in the urine, no infection, no stone. 9 days later the pain is still there. Went back to Dr 4 days ago who said to wait a few days more. I sleep well, morning are ok as long as I rest but pain gradually comes back later in the day to almost unbearable. I take paracetamol and ibuprofen , drink loads of water but it doesn t seem to do much good. I have been referred to a Urologist , don t know how long that will take. I need to be able to work and I m now worried, but mainly because I do not know what causes this pain. Cld you pls help me

Hi, I am a 36 yr old female who over the past 15 years have had about 6 uti s I also have a history of kidney stones. June 17th I awoke with symptoms of urgency and frequency. I took an at home uti test and the results were neg. I assumed I must have a stone passing as I have found this to be a cause of the urgency and frequency in the past. I continued testing every few days for the next few weeks and took azo standard as needed and expected the flank pain of a kidney stone which never presented although I did have aching middle back pain. After 3 ½ weeks my symptoms worsened until I went to the er on July 10. They examined me and sent me for 2 ct scans first without contrast 2nd with. The ct scans showed a non obstructing 3mm stable stone in my rt kidney that has remained unchanged since a ct scan in 2008, but no other problems. They ran a urinalysis as well as a cbc. My urine was postitive for nitites, but only trace wbc and a 1+protein (not sure what that means). My cbc showed an elevated wbc of 17 which lead them to believe I had a bad infection. The gave me IV antibiotics and keflex pills to take 4x a day for 7 days which I finished the following Sunday meanwhile my culture came back as gram positive for mixed flora ( I don t know what that means.) My symptoms improved but did not go away after 4 days after starting the antibiotics, so I went to a walk in urgent care facility, their dip stick test was neg. and when they cultured my urine sample there was no sign of infection. I then saw a Urologist who reviewed my ct scans and preformed an ultrasound as well. He saw no obstructions or reasons for my symptoms and told me I have inflammation left from the infection and gave me a 2 week sample of toviaz and to come back in one month in and he will run a test to make sure my bladder is empting completely. I took one Toviaz that night and the following morning the pain of urgency was much worse so I went back to the er. They ran another urinalysis and said it looked good and the cbc showed my white blood cell count was down to 14 which they were very happy about. They gave me iv fluids and torradol to help with inflammation as well as a script for naproxen. I have not taken the toviaz since and still feel symptoms. The duration of the symptoms seem to have improved slightly as I will have a few hours a day that I am almost symptom free. I also had my yearly exam with my ob/gyn last week, everything was normal and after I relayed my expirences with her she said I might have IC, which has really scared me. I m not sure what to do now and although I have been trying not to take azo I did take one this morning (after 4 days without) for unbearable symptoms. I have not gone back on the toviaz as I am afraid it worsened my symptoms before and am terrified of going through even more pain. Could you please advise me as to what could be going on and how I should proceed? Could this really be left over inflammation? I am also very curious as to what the protein in my urine could mean and why the at home uti test results were neg? I am also not sure why the urologist gave me medicine for an over active bladder? Also is it safe to take Azo standard on an occasional basis? Thank you, Christy

i am 46yrs old female, last night for the first time I was sleepwalking. Last week or so my ankle and feet have been swallen. been taking my water pills and elevating my feet. my left side is swallen from the calf down while my right side is barely swallen. Any suggestions on the cause? Even with following my doctors instructions, it is NOT decreasing in being swallen. I did have a stroke like 8 years ago and tests have shown a difference between my left and right side; right side has been weaker. Let me know what the cause could be and what will my doctor do since water pills and elevating an icing hasn t helped at all.

I was recently prescribed a water pill due to swelling in my legs and feet . I began taking it and within 3 days I lost 11 pounds (I am 5 5 and around 190 pounds). The doctor called yesterday and told me to stop taking the diuretic immediately because prior to taking them they had done blood work and my potassium levels were low and that the medication would make the levels even lower. My question is how can I tell if it is too low. My heart feels like it is beating out of my chest but my pulse is at 65(normally around 75), my left foot and left hand are going numb, and I have had really bad muscle cramps . Is this related to the potassium or is it something else?

I am 57 yo postmenopausal. I ve never really had a weight problem. I have gained approx. 35 lbs in the last 6 months--the past 2 months it s been 10lb a month for 2 months...mainly in my abdomen. Besides the fact that most of my tops/shirts no longer fit me and I hate my appearance. This whole body changing shape(abd growth) has me miserable ...I am concerned that this could be symptomatic of something more serious maybe a malignancy or hormone problem. Let me back up and tell you a little medical hx. chronic pancreatitis, also had some fatty infiltration in my liver. (no, i m not a drinker) No recent flare ups of the CP. Recent annual Abd ultrasound and abd CT ok. Also I am on 3 different diuretics a day, so I m guessing not fluid retention
