How Long Does A Lump On Forehead Post Injury Take To Heal?

My 9 year old son fell off a swing set 5 days ago and has a bump on his head about 2.5 inches in diameter. It is tender and soft- not a typical hard goose egg. He has had no others problems except a headache. Does he need to be seen or do I wait for the fluid to be absorbed into his system? And if I wait, how long does that usually take? Thank you for your time. DB

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thanks for using HCM, I understand your concern and will try to give you my medical advice, I think you need to take him to the doctor for a medical exam, any trauma in the head is important because can injure internal structures, he already has a headache and you need to pay attention to any new symptoms, if he starts to walk like a drunk, vomiting, increasing the headache or any changes in his habits act fast, remember the brain control the whole body just be alert. I hope that my advice has been helpful
