Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I took 2 pills of Duromine 40mg in 2 consecutive days. During those days I stopped breastfeeding. Although I expressed to avoid engorgement only but not to feed it to my baby. I was still in pain. I waited for roughly 25 hours since the last pill was taken then breastfed a very short feed to my baby followed by formula. I was feeding once a day previous to Duromine. Am concerned if the drug was still in my system when I breatfed. Can you please advice. Thank you
The Duromine contains Phenteramine which is excreted by the kidneys through glomerular filtration. The usual clearance takes around 18-24 hours if there is normal physiology parameters and no kidney malfunction. However, even tiny amount of residual drug in the circulation, will not harm your baby in any manner after breast feeding.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
