How Long Can Intravenous Dextrose Be Continued For Constipation?
Hi, My husband has been on dextrose iv drip and saline? for the past 4 weeks because he has a small bowel obstruction. He has stage 4 rectal cancer and has asceites. For how long can he continue on the drip? How long can he use tpn if started? how else can he get nutrition?

Prolonged IV fluids is not recommended.
If the obstruction persists you can go for a colostomy.
Consult a general surgeon and he will direct you accordingly.
