Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How long can you take Meloxicam ? What is general length of time? My husband has been on it for 5 years or more and is experiencing problems with his bone marrow producing red and white blood cells and platelets . Bone marrow biopsy shows no signs of leukemia. Cells are hypo cellular.
I can understand your anxiety. Meloxicam is a safe non steroidal anti inflammatory drug with minimal side effects. Using any drug for a long time will definitely cause some complications. Meloxicam also may have a complication of bone marrow failure when used for long time. This occurs in patients with old age and commonly in females. So we have to keep on changing the NSAIDS for every 6 months when taken for long time. No need to worry as there is no possibility of leukemia. My advice is just change the medicines and use alternates when used for long time.
Take Care
