Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health Care Magic.
My name is Dr Muhammad Ahmad & i will look into your problem.
I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. It's good to know that you are much careful about you health and got yourself vaccinate with a complete regular course of anti
rabies...
Now Coming to you question.
For how long are you protected: Almost 2 years.
What about booster dose?:
There are two groups of people:
(1) Are continuously exposed to rabies for example lab workers, explorers, jungle researchers, animal care takers and zoo keepers. These people'e blood is checked every six months and if needed they are given booster doses.
(2) People who accidentally contact it like yourself they just need those three first up doses at 0,7 and 21/28 days and then a 2 years booster dose if required...(according to antibody testing).. if you aren't continuously exposed to the disease you don't need regular booster doses. But if ever in future may be ten or twenty years from now,you get infected or have a suspicion of infection, get yourself rabies shots.
Conclusion:
1- It protects you for 2 years.
2- You don't have to get boosters every two years if you don't have fear of regular exposure.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help .
Wishing you good health !!
