How Long After Childbirth Can Normal Menstruation Be Expected?

I am a 27year old female who is in great health (eat mostly organic, practice yoga, normal BMI, don t smoke or drink) I breastfeed my nine month old baby and plan on doing this until he is three years old. My pregnancy and birth were beautiful (no complications, natural birth no medication) 1.) I have not had my period yet? Is this normal? 2.) I am also wondering if I continue to not menstruate can I get pregnant?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for your question.

I do understand your pain and discomfort.

As per your history is concerned as you are breastfeeding so it is normal usually it takes more than 5-6 months or may be more depends upon person to person and during this time you may not be ovulating so no question of pregnancy is there. So continue on breast feeding as long as you do not want next baby.

I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me.

Wishing you all the best.

Thanks
