How Is Chlamydia Contracted?

Hi, my partner and I have been together for 4 years I had an abortion 4 weeks ago at the time I got tested for chlamydia and it come back negative, now I have only slept with him in these 4 years and I went back for my check up and my test come back that I had chlamydia. As I have bought this up with my partner he is saying he never cheated on me. Is there another way around this? Could this have happened in the abortion clinic? Could this have happened by a test being wrong? Because I have never been with another person since the first time I have slept with him

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Madam,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Health Care Magic. I understand your concern.

Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) which is caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis.
You do not mention the method of abortion you had, because the only way you might be infected during the abortion procedure is by having contact with contagious surgical equipments, but even though this has low probability.
The only way chlamydia is spread is when infected fluids (vaginal fluids, semen, and/or pre-cum) come into contact with mucous membranes. Both men and women can get chlamydia through vaginal, anal, and, less frequently, oral sex with an infected partner. You can't catch chlamydia from kissing or sharing things such as toilets or towels with someone who has the infection.

I hope I was helpful.

Best Regards,
Dr. Ina Zaimi
